Suburban FC Senior Men’s headed to Nationals in Quebec
After a tough Premiership season for the young squad finishing 3 in the league with a 6-3-6 record, the Suburban FC Senior Men’s team pulled off a magical display of football in the Eastlink Premiership finals last Tuesday evening. Have beaten Dartmouth United and league champion’s Halifax Dunbrack to earn a right to play in the finals, Suburban was primed to take on the mature Halifax City side .
For the first 70 minutes of play Suburban goal keeper Jason Ross stood on his head saving numerous attacks. Halifax City final broke through in the 72nd minute scoring first on a rebound. Shortly after Suburban FC responded with a blast from Alex Cordoba hitting the back the net in spectacular fashion followed a resounding roar from the SFC supporters. At 90 minutes the teams remained tied at 1:1 forcing the game into extra time where Suburban FC sealed the deal with another from Alex Cordoba and Ian Greedy winning the title with a 3 to 1 victory of Halifax City.
This marks the first Senior title in the club’s short history. The team is headed to Brossard, Quebec on Oct 5th for the club Nationals. If you have any interest in supporting the team’s National opportunity please contact Team Manager Phil Swinney via email at president@suburbanfc.ca
