Club Update

Sunday, June 13th, 2010

Suburban Football Club is out to a great start in its first year of operation. Six of our nine teams are currently in a top 3 position in NSSL league standings. Overall our club has more teams in the top half of the leader board than any other club in the league excluding DU who also have six. Our Senior men’s team is leading the league with a 4-0-1 record.

As we move into the summer months the club will be adding the skills training program to all team schedules. Our goal is to have a professional trainer run weekly sessions with each team focusing on individual player skill development. Challenges with field accessibility has created a short delay in the launch of the skills program. We have worked through these challenges and now have a firm schedule in place for the remaining summer months.

Our Golf Tournament Fundraiser is coming up on June 24th at Lost Creek Golf Course. We encourage all club members to sign up and come out in support of our Senior programs. Individual players are welcome. The cost is $150 per player which includes the green fees, golf cart and a steak dinner following the match with lots of great prizes. Please come out and support our club.

Suburban Region inks deal with Adidas

Tuesday, March 30th, 2010

Suburban has signed a 3 year agreement with Adidas to provide all the clubs in the region with rebate programs and special discounts in return for a commitment to their brand. Working with Cleve’s Sporting Goods, the five clubs in the region (i.e. Suburban FC, Bedford, Sackville, Scotia and East Hants Soccer) have negotiated a collective agreement that allows members to purchase all Adidas products, including footwear, at double digit discounts. Members of the five clubs can visit any Cleve’s Sporting Goods location in Atlantic Canada, identify themselves to the sales clerk as a club member and receive the special pricing on Adidas items.

In return for this support Adidas will donated over $10,000 in product to help support programs and tournaments in the region. This is a huge commitment by the brand and a equally huge benefit for all club members. Everyone has to buy soccer equipment, if you buy Adidas you now get reduced prices while helping to support soccer development in the Suburban region. It’s a great way of giving back and saving money at the same time. Make sure you get out to a Cleve’s night and support our region by purchasing Adidas products.

Successful playoff births in the NSSL Winter season

Saturday, March 20th, 2010

In the Fall of 2009 the Suburban Region began a process that would see its Tier 1 NSSL teams move from the club level to a new regional structure known as the Suburban Football Club. As part of this transition both Bedford and Scotia, the two clubs that fielded the majority of NSSL teams in the Suburban region, agreed to work together to start building the foundation for the new regional club. Teams were combined and players were introduced as a start to the team bonding and player development process. The result of this effort is now visible in the NSSL Winter League standings. Of the 6 teams that were fielded as a combined effort in the region, 4 have achieved playoff births in the NSSL 2009/10 playoff season. Of the 24 youth playoff opportunities available in the winter season, Suburban region teams captured the most playoff births with 5 teams. The future Suburban teams shared this honour with their rivals at Dunbrack who also have 5 opportunities.

Congratulations to all the teams, coaches and volunteers who help to make the winter season a huge success for the Suburban region. Good luck in the playoffs!!!
