Suburban FC’s Sierra Gallant joins Vancouver Whitecaps

Suburban FC would like to send our congratulations and good luck wishes to u15AAA goalkeeper, Sierra Gallant, who has joined the Girls Elite Regional Excel Center (REX) with Professional Club Vancouver Whitecaps. Sierra headedwest last week t to join up with the Whitecaps with sets her sights on reaching the top of the women’s professional game.

Sierra joined Suburban last March when her family relocated to Nova Scotia from Ontario. When the Gallant family were relocating to Nova Scotia, Sierra’s father, Josh, reached out to Soccer Nova Scotia to find the best Club suited for her profile and development. Soccer Nova Scotia’s High Performance Director, Matt Holton, connected the Gallants with Suburban’s Director of Soccer, Jessie Bugins, and there’s been no looking back since. Since putting on the Suburban-stripes, Sierra has been a standout, not only for her own 15AAA girls team, but through her other opportunities to shine with our u17 Showcase girls, as well as with the Provincial EXCEL and Canada Games programs.

Sierra was identified by the Whitecaps when Suburban Head Goalkeeper Coach, Josh Slate, recommended that the pro-club take a look at Sierra, after she was going under their radar in Nova Scotia at the time. The Whitecaps academy centre director, Mike Ayyash, instantly took a liking to Sierra and invited her out to their Regional Excel program.

Speaking with SFC Boys Technical Director Ollie Hewish, Sierra’s father Josh had this to say;

“[The] Club (Suburban) has been great as you can imagine; they’ve been trying everything that they can do to keep Sierra challenged; having her practice with the u17s this year and last, having her play with the boys academy team, playing exhibition games with the older girls and boys teams, all that kind of stuff just to try and keep her kind of motivated and challenged. So that’s been really amazing

I couldn't have imagined this happening with any other club really just because of the depth and rep of Suburban

Adding to his comments, Josh spoke to their experience with Suburban FC’s Coaches during their time with the Club:

The Coaches we’ve had at Suburban have been great, can’t knock them for anything

In particular, Josh (referring to Josh Slate) has been a constant for Sierra and it’s been great because he was also a part of the coaching staff with the REX so that was perfect

Suburban FC Head Goalkeeper Coach Josh Slate had this to say about Sierra & this fantastic achievement and opportunity ahead of her:

I’m excited for Sierra, she fully deserves this opportunity and I know she’ll make the most of it. Sierra’s a fantastic kid on top of her exceptional ability as a goalkeeper and I’ll miss working with her. I’m honoured to have played a very small part in her journey and I look forward to seeing her take the next steps in her football life.”

Suburban FC wants to wish Sierra all the best and we look forward to keeping tabs and sharing her journey as she takes the next step in her career! Congratulations & Goodluck, Sierra!
