Part of what Suburban FC is trying to accomplish is to develop players to provide them with increased opportunities as they advance through their youth playing careers. U14 Development Boys team claims Championship

September 12th, 2011

Congratulations to the U14 Development boys team who capped off a very successful summer season by claiming the NSSL Championship this past weekend. The boys won their semi-final against South Shore 7-0 on Saturday and defeated Halifax City 3-1 in the final on Sunday. Goal scorers in the final were Kieran Flannery-Fleck, Matt Green, and Brett Liem. The boys were a dominant team throughout the season with a 14-1-1 record, the best of any Suburban FC youth team. All of the players were first year U14 players and will have an opportunity to be part of an exciting U14 Tier I program this coming winter. The team was coached by current Suburban FC Men’s team players Zach Bauld and Chris MacEachern, a great example of young Senior players giving back to developing youth players.

Suburban FC Senior Men’s headed to Nationals in Quebec

August 27th, 2011

After a tough Premiership season for the young squad finishing 3 in the league with a 6-3-6 record, the Suburban FC Senior Men’s team pulled off a magical display of football in the Eastlink Premiership finals last Tuesday evening. Have beaten Dartmouth United and league champion’s Halifax Dunbrack to earn a right to play in the finals, Suburban was primed to take on the mature Halifax City side .

For the first 70 minutes of play Suburban goal keeper Jason Ross stood on his head saving numerous attacks. Halifax City final broke through in the 72nd minute scoring first on a rebound. Shortly after Suburban FC responded with a blast from Alex Cordoba hitting the back the net in spectacular fashion followed a resounding roar from the SFC supporters. At 90 minutes the teams remained tied at 1:1 forcing the game into extra time where Suburban FC sealed the deal with another from Alex Cordoba and Ian Greedy winning the title with a 3 to 1 victory of Halifax City.

This marks the first Senior title in the club’s short history. The team is headed to Brossard, Quebec on Oct 5th for the club Nationals. If you have any interest in supporting the team’s National opportunity please contact Team Manager Phil Swinney via email at president@suburbanfc.ca

Suburban U-18 Girls Heading to Nationals

August 26th, 2011

The Suburban FC girls will head off to Club Nationals from October 5-10 in Fredericton, NB. This is the second Suburban FC youth team headed to Nationals in the club’s short history and the first female team from Suburban FC to head to Nationals. The girls won a tight game against a strong Dartmouth United team with the game heading to penalties after 120 minutes of 0-0 soccer. SFC Keeper Kelsey West was exceptional in the 1-0 win making countless saves during the game and stopping two of the four penalties she faced. Scoring in the shootout for Suburban were Ashley Poirier, Meagan McKenna, Danielle Aucoin, and Madison Turple. All of the girls should be proud of their efforts this season as they worked hard to achieve their goal to attend club nationals, a first for many of them. Good luck in Fredericton!
